The UK DVD releases of Are You Being Served sadly use edited versions of five episodes:
German Week (28:38 instead of 29:38) (Series 3)
New Look (28:10 instead of 29:03) (Series 3)
No Sale (28:47 instead of 29:10) (Series 4)
Forward Mr Grainger (28:11 instead of 29:22) (Series 4)
The Father Christmas Affair (28:55 instead of 29:33) (Series 4)
These edited versions were supervised by David Croft for repeat in the 1990s and used on the UK DVDs by mistake I believe. If you want the BBC to correct these DVDs, please email them to request it: DVDenquiryline@bbc.com
Looked at the American Set I have and seems like the American set has the most times:
German Week 29.44 total
New Look 29.01 total
No Sale 29.09 total
Forward Mr Grainger 29.25 total
The Father Christmas Affair 29.35 total
Seems like there was an Australian set? Anyone that has this set please check the times and post here. Thanks!
I think the American set is complete apart from the end of German Week. Mr Mash does a Nazi salute on the end credits in the original version. This was replaced by him appearing with a mannequin in the edited version. I think the original is only on the Dutch DVD set. I have emailed BBC America about this, as I bought the R1 box set. So the timing of German Week is probably the same as the original.
When you say the episodes were edited, do you mean they were edited down just for time, or edited for content?
By content I mean that certain scenes were taken out simply because they were 'controversial'.

Yes, they were edited for content. Material removed may have been deemed “controversial”. Lines such as Mr Grainger referring to “ the damn Bosch” were removed from German Week.
@captain-ginger Thanks, that is what I was thinking. Hopefully they can be returned to the original length at some point. Where did you buy your US set from?
